Description:
Carefully selected from over 100 published short stories, this collection offers readers a sample of the written work produced during the career of a talented yet often overlooked author. An astute blend of solemnity and humor, specific topics include unique views on major historical events, small town life, racial conflict and harmony, blatantly scandalous behavior, uncommon situations, and unpredictability in romance. The stories are set in places as varied as Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, northern California, and Asia. Their characters are as diverse as Buddy Holly and a man who flew before the Wright Brothers. Readers of these stories will see the world through the hopeful eyes of courageous refugees, innocent orphans, and dedicated teachers. They will also witness the carnage resulting from the always unprincipled and often treacherous minds of wicked pirates, pedophile priests, and inept overpaid university administrators.

These are all excellent, beautifully composed stories. I especially liked the sections dealing with “Human Imperfection” and “Uncommon Situations”. Throughout this collection, the characters really come to life. Some even remind me of people I once knew. A genuinely gifted writer!
Some really good stuff here! Talented writer, great plots, interesting characters who develop as each story progresses. Hope this author keeps writing. Maybe his “best” is yet to come!?
All of these selections are well worth reading. They are thoughtfully written, insightful in the messages they reveal, and serious with just the right…occasional touch of humor. I have read some of your earlier work and appreciated those stories as well. These are all first rate. Thanks for assembling them in this collection.
Attention grabbers and attention keepers. Beautifully written stories. Everyone in my family has enjoyed sharing this book and discussing the characters, plots, and sometimes stunning conclusions. This is an outstanding and serious work.
These stories are very good! All are different, there is no predictable pattern here. The characters are complex, real people. Their personalities evolve during the course of each plot. You never know where the next story will be set or where it will lead. One might be on a boat in the South China Sea while the next one is in a small midwestern town. I have set out to read just one to make myself sleepy; I end up reading four and am wide awake. These stories will not put you to sleep. There are many surprises; what is going to happen is a mystery until all is revealed. Very smooth writing style. These may be his “best” but now I want to read more of his other books. Very enjoyable!
Very gifted writer who is a natural as a story teller. Some are funny, some serious, many touch the heart. My favorites are “Attila the Nun”, “The Better Than Perfect Crime”, and “The Saint Patricia’s College Scandal”. Characters are in depth, multidimensional, and believable. Reading this volume was quite an experience. I highly recommend.
This collection was a most pleasant discovery. I had no idea this author was even out there. I like his style very much. Good grasp of many different cultural situations. Good sense of history. Excellent job of bringing characters to life. These stories will not disappoint.
