From Human Evolution to Evolutionary Economics

Description:

Do mindless traditions, superstition, and ignorance bother you? They’ve been around as long as the human race has. This book documents how embrace of past behavior patterns has slowed human progress and elevated backwardness to the stature of acceptable and even revered. When promoted by those in authority, such reverence for established norms has enhanced those in power and limited the potential of those with new ideas. From prehistory to the present, advances in human knowledge have always been restrained by a perennial, difficult to overcome, resistance to change. How this resistance itself has maintained its consistency over time is the subject of this brief yet thorough history of economic thought and events. (Click on Photo to Enlarge.)

A thorough history of how human progress has been slowed by resistance to change in its many forms. Well written and filled with insights from many academic disciplines.

Where did evolutionary economics come from? And how can its framework be used to understand the entire scope of world history? This book clearly answers the first question and handles the second with ease. What a marvelous history of economic ideas! The best one I have ever read.

Who “invented” Economics? Those who think it was Adam Smith will learn alot from the author of this book who traces the origins of the discipline not only to the ancient Greeks and Romans but also as far back as prehistory. In this insightful and entertaining look at world history, Pluta contrasts the roots of human progress to the forces that have opposed it. Fortunately, the sources of progress are winning. Or are they? Very well done!
